Digital Art

To create my digital art project, I used a program called Procreate on my iPad Pro that I regularly use to create digital art.

My digital project was based on children’s dreams of space and the blissful happiness and excitement that comes with it. The colors I used represent a children’s mobile that would hang from their ceiling as they fall asleep, dreaming of adventures among the stars. The character sitting on the moon was given a thoughtful look at the stars in order to appear curious and imaginative.

I started this drawing by sketching out an outline in the program with the Technical Pencil brush. Then after I felt the sketch was satisfying enough, I began inking the sketch with the Studio Pen brush on a new layer to begin the finished product. I finished the outline for the drawing, and then I created a new layer underneath the line work in order to color the drawing. I then copied the layer of color in order to get the outline for the shadows. I used color drop to fill in shadows a darker teal in order to create a shadow and did an outline in order to create to fine look of the shadows. I then moved the layer I was using for the shadows to look as though a light from a bedside lamp or flashlight was casting light onto the mobile.

Mitsubishi A6M3 Zero

The vehicle, or rather plane, pictured here is the A6M3 Zero produced by Mitsubishi in December of 1942. The Zero, also known as Zeke by the Americans, was considered a menace to allied pilots due to its high maneuverability and speed in combat. Other planes developed later in the war, like the F6F Hellcat and the F4U Corsair, soon outclassed the A6M series, but they were still used until the end of the war in 1945, ending with the A6M5.

This is the process I used to draw the A6M3:

To start out, I used the program Firealpaca, which can be downloaded for free. I proceeded to practice by drawing on paper. I used this image I found of the A6M3 https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a7/A6M3_Zero_N712Z_1.jpg as inspiration.

After that, I opened Firealpaca and started to draw an outline of my plane. When I finished, I looked at the same picture of the A6M3, and colored it according to the image with some slight edits to color so it would maintain its authenticity.

Finally, I made corrections I looked over while drawing the outline and then I saved the image.

Last year I drew an A6M2 and I think my drawing has improved a lot. My drawing this year is less wobbly and has actual color to it. I hope I can continue to improve my digital drawing skills in the future.
