Able The Disabled
This project came about as an assignment in our Language Arts class. The assignment was to give a voice to a group of people who do not have one. Our topic is about helping disabled students get a better education.
We fear that many teachers may not pay attention to the needs of disabled students. The effect of this is disabled students may not get the help that they desperately need.
To try and fix this problem, we decided to create a website using Google Sites for awareness of the issue. Next, we made a Google Slide that would inform others about our topic. We added the Google Slide to our website. Then, we wrote a description that summarized the cause of our problem, and created a petition using an editable Google Doc that would help raise awareness of this problem. Finally, we published our finished website and shared it publicly.

The Story of Juliette Dubois
Our first step to creating this digital breakout box was creating a storyline. Our story is about a tragic accident in which a girl’s husband died from an explosion at his work. The newly wed woman was so devastated that she began to go insane. She started hearing noises and later was diagnosed with schizophrenia. She assumed that the owner of the factory, where her husband had passed, exploded the factory intentionally, so she set out revenge and murdered the owner, Billy Joe. She realized her mistake soon after, and ran away. The police now need the digital break out box solver to help find her. The overall goal of the digital break out box is to use the clues to unlock the locks, therefore finding Juliette Dubois.
Our next step was to create witnesses. These people were people that had somehow been involved in Juliette’s life and had information about her. We listed quotes that they had told the police that gives the solvers clues about where she might be hiding. We then added pictures that personally related back to the witnesses and the quotes that they had told the police. Each picture lead to a lock that told the solvers where she was hiding. Next, we created a riddle that told you how the answers to the locks related to the area she was hiding in, the exact place she was hiding, along with how long she had been missing.
We then created some information to distract the solvers, but at the same time giving them background information. For example, we created a dialogue of when Juliette’s dad called the police to first report her missing. We also created a newspaper article telling the solvers about the explosion and specifically how her husband died. Another thing we made were some medical records about Juliette’s mental state. After we did all of this we went to google forms to set up the locks for the solvers to answer. We used response validation to “unlock” the locks.
When making this box we didn’t have many problems. However, we did get a little confused about how to add images to the website. We later found out that first you had to open a sidebar on google site and click “add image.” You then had to choose the image you want and put it into a separate text box than what you typed the words in.
Some things we liked about this box is that it has a mysterious storyline that we think will keep the solvers interested and focused. We also like the fact that it involves other people that Juliette knows. Lastly, we like that it is not to complicated, but it is not really easy either.
When you make a digital break out box you must only include copyright free images. You can find these by first clicking the tab that says “insert” in the top left corner of the screen. Then, click “image” and it will take you to a search bar on google. Click tools and change the usage rights to labeled for reuse.
