We decided to build the Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza. We learned about this civilization in 7th grade history. I’m (Jorge) originally from the northern part of Mexico and since the Mayan civilization was in the southern part of Mexico this inspired me to want to reconstruct this era.

We built the Mayan Ruins of Chichen Itza, all of our builds were used for Mayan Rituals. We reconstructed the main buildings in Chichen Itza which are: El castillo (The Pyramid), El Gran juego de la Pelota (A stadium), and Warriors Temple. We included these three builds because they are the biggest and most important of the city of Chichen Itza.

For this project we had to find the measurements of each build to recreate it as a 1:1 scale where one block in Minecraft equals one meter in real life. Most of the other research was trying to find out details for the construction.

Our biggest challenge was to get the measurements right because of the limitations of Minecraft. After we researched and estimated for several days the measurements of almost everything it came time to sketch it in Minecraft. Blocks in Minecraft are one meter wide, but most walls are not one meter thick which came to a problem with walls of small details. We solved this problem by using perspective.

What we like the most about these builds are that they are to scale, which means that you can see how big they are when you are standing next to them.
