I am Tan Hwui Yee from class 3E1, 2017.

I learnt about Juying Secondary School when I attended the Open House when I was Primary Six. When I was at the Open House, I was constantly welcomed with warmth by the teachers and students. That left me with a good impression. In addition, when I toured around the school, I was awed by its excellent and wonderful facilities. At the end of the visit, I made up my mind to study at Juying Secondary School.

At Secondary One, I received a scholarship from Juying Secondary School. The scholarship reminded me the importance of constantly working hard for my goal. I have been motivated to study harder so that I can achieve excellence.

At Juying Secondary School, besides motivating students to achieve academic excellence, there are non- academic programmes to develop the students. Some of the key events that I have enjoyed were the overseas Values-In-Action trip to Chiang Mai this year and the Secondary Two LEAD camp. My class went to Chiang Mai and we visited a school. My class planned many fun activities for the students and through the interaction; we had the opportunity to learn more about the Thai culture and lifestyle of the students. In addition, I learnt key values such as the importance of team-work when I had to spend time to plan activities with my class. Besides visiting a local school, my class had the opportunity to gain a valuable experience that is farming. It was a fulfilling experience for our class because we had a chance to learn how farming works, beyond what we have learnt in class. I am glad to have gone for this trip.

The next memorable experience will be the Secondary Two LEAD camp. The selection of participants was stringent. Only thirty student leaders were selected out of the entire cohort. I was fortunate to have been selected. The camp was tough but fun! We did many activities, such as kayaking and land expedition. We kayaked for about 8 hours, with resting points in between. For land expedition, we were given different check points to go to and from those check points, we were given a mission to complete as a whole team. This camp was really a valuable experience for me because not only did I make many new friends, I also learnt to overcome the difficulties I faced as well.

Through both of the two experiences I shared, I feel that I have learnt how to get out of my comfort zone and have grown as a person.

My favourite teacher is my Biology and Form Teacher, Miss Tan. Miss Tan really motivates me a lot in studies, especially in Biology, and she is willing to guide me by telling me the areas where I lack in, so that I can improve my grades. She often cracks jokes to loosen the atmosphere in the class as well. I feel that I can be really relaxed in her class, and that is something I really like.

I am from ELDDS, English Literary Drama and Debate Society. Recently, our team participated in our first SYF. With team-work and diligence, our team received accomplishment award. Besides moulding my character, through the CCA, I had the opportunity to hone my public speaking and debating skills. I am glad that I had chosen this CCA.

Thus far, my journey at Juying Secondary School has been enriching. I am sure the school will be a conducive environment for you to begin your new phase in life next year. I look forward to seeing you at Juying Secondary School next year.
