My Secondary 1 Year in Juying Secondary School has been very eventful and memorable for me. It has been a great learning journey up to now with many positive learning outcomes.

I chose Juying Secondary School because I felt a great sense of belonging when I first visited the school during its Open House. The Open House was very well-organized and the environment was very peaceful, spacious and has many facilities.

I had the opportunity to meet the school principal and vice-principal and was impressed by their kind approach as the school leaders. I believed that this was the place for me and that I would be able to strive well and surpass what I can actually do in such an encouraging and nurturing environment. At the same time, I was also awarded a scholarship as I had chosen Juying Secondary School as my first choice. This scholarship served as a good motivation for me to work even harder and excel in what I do.

The form teachers and subject teachers have been very encouraging and dedicated. My favourite teacher is Mr Lee Kah Hong, who is my PE teacher. I always enjoy his lessons as he was able to make them fun for us in many different ways. He has also imparted many life lessons to us by taking us through the problem or situation encountered to achieve a win-win situation. He also made us understand how we can become better than we were yesterday. He is truly inspiring and encouraging. I am very glad to have the opportunity to learn from him so that I can become and even better person in life.

I chose Basketball for my CCA as I enjoy playing the game leisurely during my free time. It focuses on team work, discipline and building resilience along the way. Physical training such as running and jumping also formed a major part of the training to build our stamina, agility and endurance.

The most memorable event for me was when I had my Secondary One bonding camp at the end of Semester 1. It was a 2 day 1 night camp. We stayed in school and had many fun-filled activities throughout the two days. One of the major highlight for me was when we went for a rock climbing experience followed by some games at night. Although I have a fear of height while I did the rock climbing, I managed to remain calm as my friends encouraged and cheered me on. This allowed me to step out of my comfort zone and complete the climb well. The camp had also brought me closer to my classmates and other students as there must be trust in one another before we can overcome the challenges together as a team.

I look forward to many more enriching experiences in the years ahead and will continue to strive hard to achieve the best I can for a better future ahead.
