I have grown to become more mature in terms of my thinking and actions. I used to give up very easily on whatever I did since I lacked the motivation to do my best; in fact, I would find excuses to cover up my mistakes. For instance, I used to blame my friends for playing with me, preventing me from doing my homework when the fact was that I simply did not want to do it.

In contrast, I now love to take on challenges that come my way, and do my best to find solutions to the problems. This gives me a great sense of accomplishment when I overcome these challenges. This, in turn, motivates me to continue taking on even more challenging tasks as years pass.

My teachers are always there to encourage me and encourage me in all I do. One of my favourite teachers is Mrs Lee Wen Lin. She is not just my Chemistry teacher, but also my Sky Camp commandant when I was in the lower secondary. She makes the effort to not just teach the subject well, but also makes sure that everyone is treated equally. She taught me that every action that we choose has a consequence to it. So nowadays I will think twice before doing something. When I'm feeling down, Mrs Lee will always be patient enough to hear me out and she really inspires me with her words and actions.

I enjoy being in the English Language Drama & Debating Society (ELDDS). My CCA is a platform for me to express my feelings, build my confidence and also put my ideas into action. Our CCA members have forged strong bonds with one another and we all meet every Friday to prepare for upcoming competitions, performances and also go for outings. Thanks to my CCA, I am now a more confident person who is able to speak in front of a crowd.

In addition, my most memorable experience in Juying Secondary was to be able to participate in the Secondary Three VIA camp where we spent 4 days and 3 nights in Shantou, China. During this camp, we learnt to work together as a team to overcome the challenges we faced. I was also able to make many new friends in China and learn more about their culture. I also had the chance to share the way we played Captains’ Ball and taught the students English too. Overall, it was an amazing and inspiring experience for me to be able to be a blessing to others and to be blessed in return.
