John 14:6
Jesus and Truth
6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 8:31-32
Jesus' Teachings Are the Truth and Will Set Us Free
31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, "If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."
John 18:37-39
Jesus Came to the World to Testify to the Truth
37 Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
38 “What is truth?” Pilate asked. With this he went out again to the Jews and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. 39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release ‘the king of the Jews’?"
Luke 22:1-6
1 Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching, 2 and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. 3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. 4 And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus.5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money. 6 He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
Jesus Arrested
47 While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, 48 but Jesus asked him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49 When Jesus’ followers saw what was going to happen, they said, “Lord, should we strike with our swords?” 50 And one of them struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his right ear.
51 But Jesus answered, “No more of this!” And he touched the man’s ear and healed him.
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders, who had come for him, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come with swords and clubs? 53 Every day I was with you in the temple courts, and you did not lay a hand on me. But this is your hour—when darkness reigns.”
54 Then seizing him, they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest. Peter followed at a distance. 55 And when some there had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter sat down with them. 56 A servant girl saw him seated there in the firelight. She looked closely at him and said, “This man was with him.”
57 But he denied it. “Woman, I don’t know him,” he said.
58 A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.”
“Man, I am not!” Peter replied.
59 About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.”
60 Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. 61 The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.
63 The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him. 64 They blindfolded him and demanded, “Prophesy! Who hit you?” 65 And they said many other insulting things to him.
66 At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. 67 “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.”
Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, 68 and if I asked you, you would not answer.69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”
70 They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?”
He replied, “You say that I am.”
71 Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.”
If you believe in Jesus then you believe that He stood up two thousand years age, and said I AM Truth...And if you believe that His teachings are the Truth, and if you follow His teachings then you will be set free...And if you know those things, then you know quite a bit about Truth...Because one of the reasons, Jesus tells us He came to earth was to testify to the Truth...
God gives us free will...And we have the choice to believe in the Truth or not believe...It is up to us...And, it seems, that choosing Truth is not an easy decision or choice to make...When Jesus came and taught on the earth it was very hard to follow the Truth...And still today to find and follow the Truth is still very difficult...
The night that Jesus was arrested we have Judas, who betrayed the Truths he was taught...Peter, who may have been Jesus' closest disciple denied the Truth three times within a short time span...The Temple Guard did not support the Truth...The chief priests were against the Truth...The elders did not believe in Jesus' Truths, and neither did the teachers of Moses' Law...The Roman guards mocked the Truth...And the judge, in this case Pilate, instead of acting like a judge and judging in Truth, ask Jesus (the very one he had arrested or had a hand in being arrested), "What is Truth?"...All of these groups fail to see or support, and stand up for the Truth, when it is right in front of them...These are many differing groups (and people) with different thoughts and thinking and they fail to see Truth and the importance of Truth...And what is so usual about this, absence of seeing the Truth, is that these events happened all in a few hours -on the night of Jesus' arrest...
Maybe the hardest thing about Truth, is this standing up for it...Maybe indifference to Truth is as much an opposition to Truth, as lies and falsehoods...It maybe easier to betray, deny, not support, and not talk about the Truth, than to stand up for the Ultimate Truths in Life...As stated, it is difficult to find the Truth and follow it...It was hard then when Truth walked the earth, and it is hard now...It would have been interesting if Pilate ask Jesus, "Who is Truth?", instead of "What is Truth?...Because Jesus had already told His Disciples, He is Truth...In fact, He told them He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life...The Truth, if we could follow it completely, is a Way of Life...It is the Jesus Way, the Way of His teachings...There is something about Truth, that will not let go, it shows us for who we are, and yet it will set us free...
