John 18:19-24
Jesus is Struck for Telling the Truth
19 Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching.
20 “I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret. 21 Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.”
22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials nearby slapped him in the face. “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded.
23 “If I said something wrong,” Jesus replied, “testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?” 24 Then Annas sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.
Jesus is arrested for teaching about God and then is questioned by the High Priest of Israel...Jesus had spoken openly to the public and to the world...He always taught in synagogues and at God's Temple, where all the Jews would be together...Jesus said nothing in secret...He wanted people to hear what He had to say about God and other things...
Jesus asks the High Priest to question those who got to hear Him speak and teach, because surely they would know what He had said and spoken about...Then a nearby official slapped Him in the face...Jesus says if He had said something wrong then tell Him what is wrong...And He asks the group, "But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike Me?"...
When one denies the Truth it does not affect the Truth...The denial of a Truth affects the one who is denying that Truth because they have less knowledge of the Truth and the less knowledge they have on that Subject or that fact that is true...
