John 17:1-5
Jesus Prays to Be Glorified
1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
After Jesus had talked to His Disciples and His upcoming death, He said this “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace...In this world you will have trouble...But take heart! I have overcome the world.”...Then He looked to Heaven and prayed...He had finished His Work for His Father...He had and always does follow the Complete Will of God...But we, as men and women, do not always follow God's Will...We all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God...And the wages of our sinning is death, but the free gift of God is Eternal Life in Christ Jesus our LORD...The Word of Life says that believing in the One who was sent from Heaven, and believing in the One True God, the One who sent Him is Eternal Life...Or as Jesus said it: Now this is Eternal Life: that they know You, the Only True God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent...
Jesus committed no sin, neither was any deceit ever found in His mouth...For our sake God made Him to be the Savior of our sins...The One who knew no sin, so that in Him we might become righteous with God...
Jesus is the Eternal Son of God and is Divine...St. John tells us that in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God and the Word is God...That which was and is from the beginning, which we have heard and read about in the gospels, which the original Disciples and His followers got to see with their own eyes, and could touch with their own hands were eyewitnesses to His Majesty...They proclaimed Him the Logos, the True Word of Life...The Word of Life appeared in the flesh and the four gospels give witness to the Son of Man, the Son of God...And the four gospel authors either saw Him or talked to others who walked and talked to Him...And they proclaim He is the Way to Eternal Life...The actual Disciples proclaim to the world what they have seen and have heard, so that everyone will know Him and have fellowship with all other believers...And the believers who do believe can have fellowship with the Father and with His Son, Jesus Christ...And when we know the Father and Son, then our Joy is Complete...
The One who did not sin was put on a Cross and died for our sins...And He rose three days later from His death to life...After His suffering on the Cross, He presented Himself to His Disciples and gave many convincing proofs that He is still alive...He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the Kingdom of God...On one occasion, while He was eating with them, He gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift My Father promised, which you have heard Me speak about...For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”...So at the next Pentecost, Jesus would cloak them with His indwelt Holy Spirit...Blessed be our God and Father of our LORD Jesus Christ!...According to His Great Mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a Living Hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead...For God yesterday, today, and forever so LOVES the world that He gave His One and Only Son who believes in Him will not perish but have Eternal Life...For by grace we have been saved through our personal faith and belief....By believing in the Son and the One Who sent Him, They will give us Eternal Life...And this is not by our own doing...But it is the Gift of God, not a result of and deeds or works we have done on earth, so that no one may boast that they were the one who saved themselves...Jesus took the punishment for my sins that I deserve so that through faith in Him and His Father I can be forgiven and have Eternal Life with Them...
