John 17:1-5
Jesus Prays for Himself
1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

When Nicodemus is with Jesus and being taught by the Master Rabbi, He discusses eternal life...Jesus tells Nicodemus (and us) that "Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up (on the cross), so that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life...For God so loved the world that He gave His One and Only Son, so that whoever believes shall not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:15-16)...John the Baptist tells us that God has placed everything in Jesus' hands...Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life (John 3:35)...The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our LORD (Romans 6:23)...
Eternal life is not about things, something we own or job we have, or anything else on earth...Eternal life is knowing God, the Father, and Jesus, the Son...It is about reading the Bible and knowing that every sentence is a cell of Jesus...Eternal life is believing in Him...God has placed everything in His Son's hands, including the gift of eternal life...He is the way the truth and the life...Eternal life is about believing in the Father and Son, to receive it...The flesh and sin give us death, but this is eternal life: that we may know the only true God, and the Son, He has sent...
In trying to know someone, we have to communicate with them...Communicating with God and His Son are important in getting to know God and His Son...Prayer helps us in knowing God and Jesus...
Jesus, John the Baptist, and St. Paul tell us that eternal life is about knowing the Father and Son...It is also about believing in the Father and Son...And when we do know and believe the Father and Son life is more than our earthly life and our earthly death....Getting to know God and His Son is eternal life...Having a personal relationship through knowing Jesus and His Father is what eternal life is about...Knowing God and His Son is the meaning of life...The greatest gift from God, eternal life with the Father and His Son...
