John 17:1-5
Jesus Prays to Be Glorified
1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
Jesus prays before His arrest and being hung on the cross to be glorified by God, so that He may glorify His Father...Then Jesus explains to us what eternal life is...Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the Only True God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent...Jesus had spent His time on earth by teaching us about God and glorifying Him...Jesus was finishing the work that God had sent Him to do...He finishes His Prayer to be glorified in God's Presence, like the glory He had before the world began...
Now a complex God would probably have man be on earth to do certain and maybe many things...But as one studies this prayer of Jesus', it maybe that part of each of our work on earth (and one of our purposes in life) is to glorify God and His Son...God created man and it maybe our purpose to glorify Him through our worshiping of Him...And when we believe in worshiping and praising God and His Son, then we know what eternal life is, because we know Them Both and believe in Them and have faith in Them (because of our worship of Them)...
