John 1:1-14
The Word Was With God
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe. 8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 17:1-5
Jesus Was With God Before the World Began
1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:
“Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
John 8:58
Before Abraham
58 “Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
Revelation 22:13
Beginning and the End
13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
Jesus is beyond our understanding of time...Jesus is eternal...St. John writes that Jesus is the Word, the Logos, the purpose, and the reason for life...Jesus was with God in the beginning...Jesus, when He was praying the night before His death, says that He was in the Presence of God before the world began...All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that has been made...Everything that was on earth were made by Him...And now He is here (on earth, as St. John writes about)...He created all the things (on earth) before the world began...The very purpose of the One who completely understands us, is now walking the earth as a Man (if it is fair to call Him a Man)...All who meet Jesus and talk to Him, see and hear that there, though He is a Man, see something and hear something different...
Jesus claims to have been with God from the very beginning of time...Jesus claims to have existed before even Abraham was born...By these claims, Jesus is claiming to be divine...He is claiming He is outside time as we know it...Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End...St. John claims that Jesus is the Word...And Jesus, the Word was with God and the Word was God...The Word became flesh...So Jesus the Word, who was with God and is God, becomes flesh...Jesus, therefore, is God in the flesh...Jesus makes it very clear that before Abraham, our first Patriarch, and very important in our religion and beliefs, that He was already in existence (before Abraham)...
Jesus was our Messiah...The Messiah was the One who was to come to earth for us...Jesus, the Messiah, existed before time...Jesus is divine...Jesus lowered Himself and came to earth, to become like us...Jesus is the King of Kings and became a Man on earth, out of love...He came human because of the love He has for us...God who became a Man, what irony...Man always wants complete control, more things, more famous, and wants to be more God-like...Maybe the only way to lift a sinner up, is to descend to his level...This is the four gospels, our God descending to our level...A loving Father, coming to walk around and to teach the sinner, in man's time...Jesus is both God and Man...He is both the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End...Jesus is the Alpha and Omega...
