John 18:15-18
Peter's First Denial
15Simon Peter and another disciple were following Jesus. Because this disciple was known to the high priest, he went with Jesus into the high priest's courtyard, 16but Peter had to wait outside at the door. The other disciple, who was known to the high priest, came back, spoke to the girl on duty there and brought Peter in.
17"You are not one of his disciples, are you?" the girl at the door asked Peter.
He replied, "I am not."
18It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself.
Simon Peter and another disciple tried to follow Jesus after He was arrested...Because the high priest and the officials had followed Jesus and His teachings for a long period many of them were familiar with His twelve disciples...Others knew of Jesus and also His twelve disciples...It was cold the night of Jesus' arrest and the servants, officials, and Peter were trying to warm themselves around a fire...A girl noticed Peter and ask him if he was one of the Twelve...He replies, "I am not."...
When Jesus needs Peter, he denies Him...We too deny Him...Peter had said he would die for Jesus just a few hours earlier...Now when ask (after His arrest), he doesn't even know Him...While Peter is denying he knows Him, Jesus is denying nothing and will be sent to the cross...
