John 6:35-59
Everlasting Life
35 Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. 36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. 37 All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. 39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. 40 For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
41 At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42 They said, “Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can he now say, ‘I came down from heaven’?”
43 “Stop grumbling among yourselves,” Jesus answered. 44 “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them, and I will raise them up at the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets: ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard the Father and learned from him comes to me. 46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father. 47 Very truly I tell you, the one who believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life. 49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, yet they died.50 But here is the bread that comes down from heaven, which anyone may eat and not die. 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever. This bread is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”
52 Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them. 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me. 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.” 59 He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

Conflict over Jesus' Own Claims
22 Then came the Festival of Dedication at Jerusalem. It was winter, 23 and Jesus was in the temple courts walking in Solomon’s Colonnade. 24 The Jews who were there gathered around him, saying, “How long will you keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.”
25 Jesus answered, “I did tell you, but you do not believe. The works I do in my Father’s name testify about me, 26 but you do not believe because you are not my sheep. 27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.28 I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. 29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and the Father are one.”
31 Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, 32 but Jesus said to them, “I have shown you many good works from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?”
33 “We are not stoning you for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.”
34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”’? 35 If he called them ‘gods,’ to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be set aside— 36 what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, ‘I am God’s Son’? 37 Do not believe me unless I do the works of my Father. 38 But if I do them, even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.” 39 Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.

Jesus Claims He is the Resurrection and the Life
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; 26 and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”
John 17:3
Now this is Eternal Life
3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
How can One Man give us everlasting life?...Who would make such a claim?...Jesus made many unusual claims as a Man when He walked the earth...Many of His claims are about His special relationship with God...He uses words that one thinks He and God are One and the Same...And if not One and the Same, then certainly a Father and a very, very close Son...
The many verses here are that He can give us eternal life, if we believe in Him...No one ever, no other man has made such claims as He did...To my knowledge, no other religious leader claimed that He could give me and all mankind everlasting life for believing in them...I do not know of any man, relating Himself to eternal life...And as we read what He claims and what He does, He makes good on the claims that He made...The claims that He makes about Himself makes Him like no other religious figure ever in the history of this world...Certainly He is like no other Man...He is Divine...He is more than a Man, He is God in the flesh, who came and dwelt among us...
When some group of Jews, picked up stones to stone Him and try to kill Him, He asked them this: “I have shown you many good works from the Father...For which of these do you stone Me?”...“We are not stoning You for any good work,” they replied, “but for blasphemy, because You, a mere Man, claim to be God.”...And in His words about eternal life and everlasting life, He claims to be God in the flesh according to His enemies...
Jesus said that it was His Father's will that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in Him shall have eternal life, and then He would raise them up on the last day…And He added that He tells the Truth, and those who believe in Him has everlasting life…
Jesus said that those who follow Him will have eternal life, and those that do follow and believe in Him will never perish…His Father is Greater than all, and no one can snatch His followers out of God’s hand…God has given His followers to Him and those who follow Him cannot be snatched out of is Father’s hand…Jesus and His Father are One…
Jesus said He is the resurrection and the life...Those who believe in Him will live, even though they will physically die...And whoever lives by believing in Him will never die...Now this is eternal life: that we know God, the Only True God, and Jesus Christ, whom God has sent to earth...
