John 14:6-7
Jesus Says that He is Truth
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
John 18:33-37
Jesus Came to Earth to Testify to the Truth
33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”
35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”
36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
When one speaks nothing but the truth that is a difficult task...Jesus life was not committed to a reputation, or political power, but of speaking and testifying to the Truth...Jesus was always about the truth, because He is Truth, and the Absolute Truth...When He said I AM Truth, we can believe that Truth is a Person...His Identity is grounded in Truth...
Always speaking the Truth got Jesus in trouble...The Pharisees and the Sanhedrin were looking for Him to say something that would be a reason that they could get him arrested...But He spoke nothing but the truth, the whole truth, and He was aided by God in always speaking the Truth...And as one thinks about the truth and always speaking the Truth, one would think everyone would be okay with that...But that is not the case...We find that out when Jesus gets arrested for speaking the Truth, and then dies on the cross for what His opponents said was blasphemy...But blasphemy is the act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things...And Jesus never spoke negatively of God or of the sacred and holy things, because He was always testifying to the Truth...God was the center to His life...And always speaking nothing but the Truth is a rough journey and quite demanding...People like to hear what they like to hear, and the truth is not always an easy thing to listen to...
Alistair Begg said this on speaking the Truth, "To risk reputation and affection for the truth's sake is so demanding that to do it constantly you will need a degree of moral principle that only the Spirit of God can work in you...Do not turn your back like a coward, but play the man...Follow boldly in your Master's steps, for He has made this rough journey before you...Better a brief warfare and eternal rest than false peace and everlasting torment."...
