John 18:28-40
Jesus' Conversation With Pilate
28 Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. 29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?”
30 “If he were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed him over to you.”
31 Pilate said, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.”
“But we have no right to execute anyone,” they objected. 32 This took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die.
33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”
35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”
36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. 39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release ‘the king of the Jews’?”
40 They shouted back, “No, not him! Give us Barabbas!” Now Barabbas had taken part in an uprising.
God's Truth is Eternal and Unchanging...God is unchanging, Infinite and Eternal...His nature, character, and Word are absolute and unchanging...That is why it is written that God is the same yesterday, today...His Truths are not subject to the whims of time, culture, or human opinion...
Circumstances in life may and do change, but God’s Word and His Truth remains the Truth...Our understanding of God's Truth may evolve as we grow in faith and knowledge, but the Truth itself remains constant...Circumstances may change, our perspectives may shift, we and our experiences may vary, but God's Truth remains steadfast and unchanging...As we age, let us hope, that we understand God's Truth more and more and that we embrace more and more the Source of Truth...
Jesus is the Incarnation of Truth...Jesus Himself embodies God's Word and His Truth...Jesus is a Reflection of God’s Truth...He declared, "I AM the Way, and the Truth, and the life...No one comes to the Father except through Me" (John 14:6)...Jesus' teachings and actions consistently demonstrate God's unchanging character and unwavering LOVE for humanity...His Truth transcends all cultural and society norms...It is not bound by human constructs or influenced by changing human opinions...It is a Universal Truth that applies to all people in all times and places...
Jesus lived the Truth...Jesus lived in accordance with God's Truth which requires a commitment to the absolute standards of righteousness, regardless of the prevailing cultural norms or personal preferences...
Jesus' always Spoke God’s Word and He tells us that God’s Word is Truth...Jesus said: "If you abide in My Word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free." (John 8:31-32)...This passage emphasizes the importance of abiding in Jesus' teachings as the pathway to true freedom and understanding."...Jesus said to Thomas, 'I AM the Way, and the Truth, and the life...No one comes to the Father except through Me.'. (John 14:6)...This verse declares Jesus as the embodiment of Absolute Truth, the Only Way and Path to God...Then in John 17:17, He says: "Sanctify them by the Truth; Your Word is truth."...This verse highlights the power of God's Word to transform lives and bring about holiness...
When Jesus got arrested, He was taken to Pilate, the Roman governor...Pilate seems more concerned with maintaining order and avoiding conflict than with seeking Truth and justice for an Innocent Man...And thus he seems he wants to appease the Jewish leaders...He is more interested in political expediency than in understanding the true nature of the charges against Jesus...This highlights how worldly power often seeks to suppress Truth when it threatens the established order or the one in power...The Jewish leaders watching and who were blinded by their own prejudices and driven by fear and their own self-interest, failed to recognize the Truth about Jesus...They reject His message and seek to silence Him, demonstrating the world's inherent resistance to Truth...Jesus declares that He came into the world "to testify to the Truth."...He presents Himself as the embodiment of Universal Truth, the One who reveals the true nature of God and the path to salvation in life for all mankind's misdeeds and sins...Jesus' statement, "Everyone who is of the Truth listens to Me," suggests that those who truly desire Truth will be drawn to Him...True freedom in life, therefore, lies not in adhering to worldly definitions of truth or conforming to societal expectations, but in embracing the Truth as revealed to Pilate by the One speaking to him...
Jesus gets very deep conversation with Pilate and it seems that he is disinterested in finding out about the Truth...When Jesus said: “You say that I AM a King...In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the Truth...Everyone on the side of Truth listens to Me.”...This is such a profound statement that reveals that Truth is a actually a Person...So when Pilate retorts "What is Truth?", he doesn't even realized Truth is standing right in front of him...It seems to me that Pilate did not want to hear things of this nature is not fully listening...Jesus is declaring Himself to be the embodiment of Truth...He is not merely a Teacher of Truth, but the Truth Itself...In His calm conversation with Pilate, even though His death He knows is inevitable, we see that Truth requires a response...Pilate was glossing over Jesus' conversation with Him...Those who truly value Truth, who long for Truth, will naturally turn to Jesus...They will recognize Him as the Source of all Truth and seek to understand His Teachings...And we learn here that True Discipleship involves listening...Listening to Jesus involves more than simply hearing His words...It requires a receptive heart, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to living according to His Teachings...While the world often seeks Truth in fleeting, temporary ways, and ultimately unsatisfying places: in wealth, power, pleasure, and self-gratification...This pursuit of worldly "truths" often leads to disillusionment and emptiness and a void in life...When we find Truth in Christ, we learn that True and lasting fulfillment comes not from the pursuit of worldly "truths," but from seeking Truth in Jesus...By listening to His words, following His teachings, and abiding in Him, we find the true meaning of life and experience the Joy of Living in accordance with God's Truth...Listening to Jesus requires a surrender of our own will and our own understanding...It involves acknowledging that His Way is the Only True Path and The Way of Life and embracing His teachings as the ultimate source of wisdom and guidance...This is why we must ask ourselves What is Truth, and Who is Truth?...So by asking ourselves this question, Jesus sees who His disciples' are and if we understand of His identity...He wants to see if we truly grasp the significance of His Person and mission...
In conclusion, God's Truth is an unchanging and absolute reality...It transcends human circumstances, cultural norms, and shifting opinions...By abiding in Christ and seeking to live according to His teachings, we can experience the liberating power of Truth and find true and lasting fulfillment...
