Matthew 7:24-29
The Wise and Foolish Builders
24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
28 When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, 29 because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.
John 17:17
God's Word is Truth
17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
I believe that reading the Bible is important...I think that we can learn many things about life from the Bible...Jesus teachings, to me, are unsurpassed...
What would you think the best way to learn about Jesus is?...I would say that it is to read the four gospels and then the rest of the New Testament...And with the four gospels and the Acts, written by Luke, we learn much about Jesus...And to learn more about Him, we can then read Paul's letters to others about Jesus and faith...Paul has some very interesting epistles, which he gives us his ideas on faith and Jesus and God...We should read these gospels by the authors who wrote about Jesus, because they are the experts on Him and walked and talked with Him, the time He lived...The gospel authors are the closest we can get to Jesus, from a reading and book point of view...
When one is studying something that they want to gain knowledge on usually the take classes at a school or read books or articles on the subject...Or you can listen to one who knows the subject best or is good at it...Learning about God and Jesus maybe isn’t much different is some respects as learning about other things...The Bible is the best book to learn about God and Jesus...And specifically, we have these four gospels to learn about God’s Son...The gospels are the books that God has given us to learn about Jesus...And they are the great and sacred writings about His Son...
The men who wrote these holy and great books are often met with disbelief in what they wrote...But when a scientist comes out years ago and tells us we are made up of DNA, we for some reason believe it quickly and almost easily, put it in a book, and allow it to be taught to children...
One can be good and be nice and practice following Jesus, but it is best to know those things about Him that were written by those who were with Him at that time He was on earth...The experts on Him...Or we can also study other experts, as I believe C. S. Lewis is on the subject of Jesus and religion and learn...Ministers and preachers know about God's Word and are a great resource...So isn’t it better to see and read God’s Word and have some expert about this important subject, also?...
Let us say you want to know something about your engine...You learn as best you can about engines from books and a teacher of engines...These books about engines took time to put together and to be completed, so people could understand better the engine...And the engine teacher has spent much time learning his trade, and has gotten better in his knowledge over time...Immediately we have troubles, our engine breaks down...You do your very best to fix the engine, but still it will not run...Some will spend a lot of time on this and others much less...You now know you haven’t learned enough about the inner parts of the engine because you are incomplete in your knowledge, and your car still won’t run...So you either go right back to your books or the one who taught you and ask for his knowledge about engines again, if you want your engine fixed...You would not be smart to throw out your books or curse your engine teacher, if you want your car to run again...And you know you know you are not going to throw away your car...It seems, that generally speaking for me, that we generally first go back to the one, the expert, instead of the books about engines (not all do this, but many would not go back and take the time reread the book on engines...Maybe it is just that it is too time consuming)...I think there is this hurry and busyness of life...But, no doubt it would be best for our personal knowledge of engines to reread the book again, and then we would know even more knowledge about our engines...
Let us try to look at religion, in a way that we look at science books, and books on engines...Do we believe what is in the DNA science book and the engine book?...I think we do...When something goes wrong in life and you cannot throw out the Bible or disregard your beliefs on how life works...We are told troubles will come in life...
Some books and written documentation are used more than others by each of us...It is good to have a well rounded things that we know, but still some things are more important to learn and know than other things...And I believe some people, in our lives, are believed in more than others by each of us...
Some books are more important to us than others...And what is written gives that book its importance...When we look at life and our faith and in what believe, which do we take more seriously God’s Word or the word of science or the book about my engine?...
