John 18:28-40
Jesus Came to Earth to Testify to the Truth
28 Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness they did not enter the palace, because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. 29 So Pilate came out to them and asked, “What charges are you bringing against this man?”
30 “If he were not a criminal,” they replied, “we would not have handed him over to you.”
31 Pilate said, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.”
“But we have no right to execute anyone,” they objected. 32 This took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die.
33 Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?”
34 “Is that your own idea,” Jesus asked, “or did others talk to you about me?”
35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate replied. “Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me. What is it you have done?”
36 Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”
37 “You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
38 “What is truth?” retorted Pilate. With this he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said, “I find no basis for a charge against him. 39 But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of the Passover. Do you want me to release ‘the king of the Jews’?”
40 They shouted back, “No, not him! Give us Barabbas!” Now Barabbas had taken part in an uprising.
Jesus is the Absolute Truth, and that He is the way reality is supposed to be, is a profound and deeply held belief that stands at the very core of Christian faith...Turht is not a subjective opinion but a worldview grounded in specific biblical declarations...Understanding of Truth resonates with the idea that while humanity has always faced trouble and strayed from God's Divine Design—as seen in the story of Noah and the wickedness of the world catching up to man—Jesus provides the unchanging, Ultimate Reality that brings order and hope to a chaotic world...
Because Jesus is and was a person, Truth becomes personal...He is not an abstract concept; He is a Living Personal Being who dwelt among us, full of "Grace and Truth" as described in John 1:14...This makes God's Truth accessible, relatable, and tangible...It is this personal nature that sets the Christian worldview apart, providing a relationship with Truth itself rather than just a set of doctrines...
The Person of Truth is our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ..Jesus's identity as the Truth is Reality itself...He is not merely a Teacher of Truth, but the living embodiment of All Truths...The key verses in Scripture beautifully demonstrate this:
John 14:6: Jesus proclaims, "I Am the Way and the Truth and the Life...No one comes to the Father except through Me."...In understanding this Jesus has made an exclusive statement...Jesus is the Ultimate Reality of God's promises and the only path to the Father...He is not just showing us the way to heaven; He is the Way to Heaven...He isn't just speaking a Truth; He is the Truth...He isn't just offering life; He is the Life...
John 18:37: When facing Pilate, Jesus states, "For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I came into the world—to testify to the Truth."...He affirms that His very purpose for coming to earth was to bear witness to God as Truth and to make that Truth our reality...He then says, "Everyone on the side of Truth listens to Me."...This highlights that recognizing Jesus as the Truth is a fundamental choice, just as Pilate faced deciding what was Truth and what not was truth...This conversation between Jesus and Pilate stands as a dramatic, real-world example of the very ideas about Truth...Their conversation serves as a perfect illustration of how many people, even today, stand before and staring at the Truth but fail to grasp it...
The foundation of Truth is in God's Word...God's Word is the foundation of our Absolute Truth is a critical aspect of this worldview...The personal Truth of Jesus is inextricably linked to the written Truth of the Bible...You are right to see these as two parts of one unified reality: John 17:17: Jesus says to the Father, "Sanctify them by Your Truth; Your Word is Truth." This elevates the Bible to the status of an absolute and trustworthy source of Divine Knowledge...It is the reliable record of God's character and plan...
Psalm 31:5: David refers to God as "the LORD, the God of Truth," highlighting God's unchanging nature and reliability...This is a powerful Old Testament echo of the New Testament revelation that God's character is the very definition of Truth...
Romans 3:4: The apostle Paul states, "Let God be True, and every man a liar."...This reinforces that God's Truth is constant and reliable, unlike human assertions, which are often flawed and not true sometimes...It provides a stark contrast between a fixed, Divine Truth and a changing, fallible human perspective...
Truth is an Objective Reality...For those who follow Jesus, Truth is not a subjective opinion but an objective reality defined by God and revealed in Scripture...In a world of conflicting ideologies and subjective feelings, this belief provides a reliable and unshakeable foundation...Accepting Jesus' testimony and trusting God's Word offers believers a sense of security and purpose...Jesus's life and coming to earth serve as God's Ultimate Witness to this Truth, bringing clarity and understanding to a world that is often lost and ignorant of spiritual realities...Believers are called to be witnesses to this objective reality is a powerful one....By sharing our faith and a love for the Truth of God's Word, we can help bring that unchanging reality to a world that desperately needs it...
