Synon.: Viola albanica HALACSY var. lutea W. BECKER
Description: Perennial, loose-grained herb 6–15 cm high. Stems thin, with leaves crowded on top. Leaves 1.5–3 cm long and 2-4 mm wide, inverted-lanceolate to linear-inverted lanceolate, entire, gradually tapering towards the base, with no apparent stem. Flower stems 4-9 cm long. Calyx leaves lanceolate-lanceolate, pointed, 8–12 mm long. Crown usually yellow, rarely pink, lower crown leaf 18–25 (–30) mm long, including (6–) 8–12 mm long, slender spurs. The fruit is a capsule.
Interchanges: It grows in common locations with Viola albanica , from which it differs mainly in the shape of the leaves, the shorter flower stalk and usually the yellow flowers, they commonly cross. A related species is Viola brachyphylla W. Becker from the southern part of the former Yugoslavia, which has only 10 mm long leaves.
Distributional Range: native Europe SOUTHEASTERN EUROPE: Albania; Macedonia; Greece [North Pindos, Vasilitsa, Smolikas]
Habitat: A species specialized in serpentinite substrates, growing on stony slopes, debris and snowy slopes at an altitude of 1900–2600 m. It blooms in May to August.
