Distribution and ecology — Distribution: mountains of northwest South America, occurs in the Colombian, Ecuadorian and Peruvian Andes. Ecology: Grows in humid mountain forests, in shrubby vegetation on banks of watercourses, at pastures and around roads, at altitudes from 2200 to 3500 m.
