Distribution and ecology : occurs in Bolivia, department of La Paz, Peru, departments from Ancash, Cuzco, Puno and Cajamarca, and in Ecuador, province of Azuay . In Argentina V. pygmaea is only present in the province of Salta. Grows in mountain regions between 3000-4850 m
