Distributional Range: Native Asia-Temperate EASTERN ASIA: Japan [Ryukyu Islands (Amami-oshima, Tokunoshima, & Okinawa-jima)]
Habitat: mountains, moist rocks in mountain streams
Notes: A plant discovered by Tomitaro Makino in September 1909 when he visited Yakushima for collecting plants. The species name iwagawai is a tribute to Iwakawa Kadonojo who accompanied Makino in the plant collection.
