Romans 5

1 So, having been justified from faith,

peace we grasp* before the God,

through the Lord of ours Iesoûs Christós,

2 through whom also we have grasped,

by the faith,

the bringing in to the grace, that grace,

in which we have taken stand,

and boast,

upon hope of the glory of the God.

3 Yet not only*,

but we also boast in the tribulations,

knowing that the tribulation works forth endurance,

4 yet the endurance works forth proof*,

yet the proof*, hope.

5 Yet the hope does not put to shame,

because the love of the God has been poured forth in the hearts of ours,

through Holy Spirit, that has been given to us.

6 For yet Christ, our being yet weak*, at the season died for impious ones.

7 For hardly for a righteous person will someone die.

For perhaps for the good, someone dares even to die.

8 Yet the God commends the love of Himself* to us, because our yet being sinful, Christ died for us.

Notes

1 Some ancient manuscripts read may we grasp or let us grasp

3 Two ancient manuscripts add that

4 Or validation, esteem, approval

6 Or sick

8 Or from Himself or the love of his (the possessive use of the reflexive pronoun is very rare in the New Testament: Matthew 21:8, 25:1 and Luke 15:20 where it is changed to a personal pronoun by many manuscripts, Luke 2:39, 11:21 etc.)
