A book of lineage of Iesous Christós, Dauíd's son, Abraám's son.
Abraám begot the Isaác, then Isaác begot the Iacób, then Iacób begot the Ioúdas and the brothers of his,
then Ioúdas begot the Fáres and the Zára from the Thamár, then Fáres begot the Hesróm, then Hesróm begot the Arám,
then Arám begot the Aminadáb, then Aminadáb begot the Naassón, then Naassón begot the Salmón,
then Salmón begot the Bóes from the Hracháb, then Bóes begot the the Iobèd from the Hroúth, then Iobèd begot the Iessaí,
then Iessaí begot the Dauíd the king. Then Dauíd begot the Solomón from her of the Ourías,
then Solomón begot the Hroboám, then Hroboám begot the Abiá, then Abiá begot the Asáf,
then Asáf begot the Iosafát, then Iosafát begot the Iorám, then Iorám begot the Ozían,
then Ozían begot the Ioathám, then Ioathám begot the Acház, then Acház begot the Hezekían,
then Hezekían begot the Manassês, then Manassês begot the Amós, then Amós begot the Iosías,
then Iosías begot the Iechonías and the brothers of his upon the Babylonian captivity.
Then after the Babylonian captivity, Iechonías begot the Salathiél, then Salathiél begot the Sorobabél,
then Sorobabél begot the Abioúd, then Abioúd begot the Eliakím, then Eliakím begot the Azór,
then Azór begot the Sadók, then Sadók begot the Achím, then Achím begot the Elioúd,
then Elioúd begot the Eleázar, then Eleázar begot the Matthán, then Matthán begot the Iakób,
then Iakób begot the Ioséf the husband of María, of whom was born Iesoús, him called Christós.*
Thus all the generations are: from Abraám until Dauíd fourteen generations, and from Dauíd until the Babylonian captivity fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian captivity until the Christós fourteen generations.
Then the birth of the Iesoús Christós was thus: the mother of His, María, having been engaged to Ioséf, before there was a coming together of them she was found having a child in the belly from Holy Spirit.
Then Ioséf the man of hers, being just and not wanting her to be made an example, planned to dismiss her secretly.
Then, him having willed these things, behold! an angel of the Lord appeared to him during a dream, saying, "Ioséf Dauid's son! Fear not to receive María as the wife of yours, for what is in her is begotten of Holy Spirit.
Then she will bear a son, and you will call the name of His Iesoús, for He will rescue the people of His from the sins of theirs.
Yet, the whole of this happened so that it would be fulfilled: what was spoken by the Lord via the prophet saying,
"See! The virgin will have in womb and bear a son, and they will call the name of his Emmanouel," which is, being translated, "With us is the God".
Now the Ioséf, having been woken from the sleep, did as the angel had commanded him, and he received the woman of his.
And he did not know her until that she had borne a son. And they called the name of His Iesoús.
