During the 3rd Age, a mysterious event created a magical storm whose vortex surrounds the island preventing anyone from entering or leaving. Since then, it is a rare event that anyone breaches this barrier, and those who do are always with the permission of the guild.

The Tempest is a magical storm that surrounds the island of Arcanis. While it resembles that of a hurricane, it has lasted for hundreds of years, not changed in intensity, has other anomalous effects, and perhaps most curious of all spins clockwise unlike other storms of the northern hemisphere.
