Westfarthing (250) was a classic example of a town which grew famous due to a particularly notable resident. Once the eastern terminus of the Teak Road, Westfarthing mostly served as a tradehub for the western settlements of Ferrymellow in the mid third age, but grew more prominent due to the Halfling Botanist and healer Fannie Whiles (TA 2660-2821), developer of one of the first medicines with antibiotic properties. The town grew to further prominence upon the construction of Gleppington Fort, serving the Gnomish and Halfling soldiers, researchers, and builders required to maintain the fort. However, The Dwarvic Conglomerate targeted the city early as a military target and burned it to the ground early during their assault on Fort Gleppington. Descriptions of this area from the Fourth Age refer to the “Westfarthing Char”, referring to a conflagration so hot the ground remains scorched and rock-hard to the touch even in 49 MA.
