The Unseelie Court is a loose form of monarchy lead by a fairy king and a number of nobles called ministers who each manage an aspect of their fairy kingdom. Precisely how succession works, what these ministerial roles are, term length, or even overall bureaucracy is largely a mystery, and members of the Seelie Court are disinterested in explaining it.
Unlike their rival kingdom, the Seelie Court, the people of the Unseelie Court are particularly unfriendly to each other, as well as outsiders. They are known to steal Blimnorian children and raise them in the Faeland by neglectful or abusive foster parents.
Why precisely they treat people this way is unclear, but considering that they are more likely to inflict great terror and uncertainty before physical violence suggests that there is some twisted philosophy behind their policy.
King Nalarre holds his court in the cold, dark, and sinister land of Gloomthorn. The twisted landscapes reflect the warped architecture of the King's palace. Here travelers must beware as every encounter is likely to be a malicious trick meant to trap them forever as a memento of an unseelie master. Still, a clever and careful person may find themselves infiltrating these terrifying lands and before the austere Unseelie Court where they will find themselves judged by the towering and ominous figure of King Nalarre himself.
Those who have survived an audience with the Winter King describe him as handsome and stern, with long lavender hair that twists and floats in the air. His hooded eyes stare through you and rarely like what they see. His body, while tall and slender, seems to stretch, twist, and glide in a way that is quite unnerving and unnatural. His calm condescension is not the only way he expresses his superiority, as observing his courtiers and subjects tells another story. The way that they cower and scurry to carry out his every order shows their fear and respect, and the creeping creatures that surround him are quick to offer themselves as a decoration, a plaything, or even a snack.
