Technology has developed exponentially. Even in the 3rd Age, dwarven industrialists and gnomish inventors were already pushing the boundaries of technology with things such as steam locomotives, armored tanks, and gunpowder cannons. However, with less magic to provide convenient solutions and a great many societies needing to rebuild after the war, the need for industry, mass production, and new tools and forms of transportation grew. Now it is not uncommon to see railways networked through most rural towns, ships with propellers or paddlewheels, carriages propelled by combustible engines, and for people living dangerously to carry a revolving pistol for protection. Photography can now capture images near instantaneously, radio waves can carry telegrams across great distances, and electricity can power a great many things including lighting or heating homes.
