DAY 12 of 21 DAY MERCY PRAYER & FAST
" ... I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion. So then, everything depends, not on what human beings want or do, but only on God's mercy " - Romans 9:15-16
PRAYER INTENTIONS
Lord have mercy
Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasure of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to your holy will which is love and mercy itself. Amen
HOW TO RUN A FAMILY ALTAR
You can start by dedicating a particular room or spot in your home for the spiritual significance and to cause the lingering presence of God there as you create consistently an atmosphere that God can bless and reside in. (2 Chronicles 7:16).
Then endeavor to involve everyone in the altar. One person can lead the worship/songs, another, the reading of the scriptures and another the sharing of the word, etc.
At the meetings let each one or each child pray a prayer, while others agree with him/her. (1 Corinthians 14:26).
Then teach and practice the significances of the faith that tallies with your spiritual ACCEPTANCE.
Endeavor to teach doctrines and precepts of your faith. Everyone in our families should know the basic doctrines of the Bible. Everyone should have a Bible.
Everyone should be encouraged to share the dreams and visions they've been having and every other issue that may not emerge in the course of the daily grind.
Endeavor to pray through the GATES of time at the altar. A good example is birthdays because there is a reason the person was born on that day and that day marks the beginning of a new cycle in the life of the celebrant, so prayers must be offered on their behalf.
You must be watchful as the enemy will fight the family altar. Starting may be easy and exciting but sustaining the constancy may be challenging. It is imperative to do everything within our power to keep the FIRE on the ALTAR ALIVE. Life is warfare; it is only through prayer that we will become victorious.
Gen 12:7& 8, 13:14-18, 22:9. Altar connotes a place of intimacy and communion with God. Abraham was called the friend of God because of the way he related to Him. What made the difference was his attitude to the ALTAR. The above scriptures reveal the consistency of his altar life. The greatest need for any family is to build an altar for God. God is looking for altar builders to commune with. When a family builds an altar for God, He will bless them just like He blessed Abraham.
Abraham built an altar for God; because of that he became so intimate with God and God blessed him in all things. Gen 24:1.
For many Christian families, spirituality is meant for the Church alone; all prayers, teachings, and worship must be only in the Church. In many of these families, there has been the abdication of godly leadership, family worship, and spiritual leadership that is dangerous for family health...
It is only through the family altar that spiritual exercises like prayer, teaching, praise, and worship can be introduced into our homes. In order words, the family altar is the church in the home. Church in the home also means God in the home and when God is in your home, He will surely bless your home 2 Sam 6:12.
BENEFITS OF FAMILY ALTAR
FELLOWSHIP: it makes the family come together to pray, study the Word, and worship. As a result of the family altar, children are brought up in the fear of God. They are blessed by the Lord and in turn, become a blessing to their family.
It is at the family altar that children develop godly virtues and values to live a stable, peaceful, and victorious life in the future Prov. 22:6. Children will also learn how to communicate with God at the family altar.
At the prayer altar, battles of life are fought and won for a family. The power of God is released for the benefit of the family. A prayer altar makes the family spend a good time together with God.
A family altar is a place for repentance, forgiveness, and healing; 1 Peter 3:7. It creates an atmosphere for miracles, signs, and wonders in the family.
Generally, the family altar fosters unity, harmony, and love in the family.
HOW TO MAKE FAMILY ALTAR EFFECTIVE
Have a regular time for it every day; probably very early in the morning.
Make Bibles available for the family especially the modern (and simple) translation so that everybody can understand.
Take a scripture for praise and WORSHIP. Take a new Bible reading for the day. You can also use a devotional guide for this purpose.
Explain and discuss with others the passage or the topic for the day
Relate such to practical day-to-day lifestyle i.e. morally, socially, and spiritually.
Let there be every family member’s participation.
Family members should be encouraged to know the word, and commit it to memory at least paraphrase.
Prayer: this can be done together while a leader raises the prayer points for others.
• The leading of the devotion can be rotated between the father and mother or the grown-up children. This will enhance the Spiritual development and growth of the family members.
The benefit of a family altar cannot be over-emphasized. Every believer who desires to have a home that will be Heaven on earth should not neglect the family altar.
