Foundations of Art

Reflection

I think my work really shows that I have gradually improved over the year especially with learning how to use a bunch of different materials in my art. I definitely think I have Improved with just basic and realistic sketching with the difference between my self-portrait from the beginning of the year and my self-portrait from the end of the year. I can definitely see how I have improved with detail and just having patience overall because art can take time and it can get frustrating. My work has also shown improvement because throughout the year I feel like I have developed my own personal touch that I put on my artwork. I have also found the styles of art that I like and the styles that I don't like. I definitely learned throughout the year the materials I like using and the ones that I find more difficult to use, I definitely think that helped improve my art during the year too.

The most challenging part of Foundations of Art this year was probably me just getting used to high school and the workload that comes with it and trying to stay on top of everything. This was mostly because I would get really stressed about trying to finish everything. Another challenging part of this year was learning how to use new materials and techniques and learning how to do art different ways. The most challenging material that I had to learn how to use this year was probably charcoal and chalk, just because it was really messy and whenever I used it it didn’t come out that good. And the most challenging techniques I had to learn to do this year was probably when we did the linear perspective work and learning more about realistic drawing.

I’m most proud of how I have improved over the year and how much of a difference you can see when you look at my art from the beginning of the year compared to my work now. I really doubted my art skills at the beginning of the year and now I feel a lot more confident in my work. I’m proud of myself for trying new things like different techniques and materials even when I knew they would be difficult and I might not have fun learning them. And I’m just proud of myself for persevering even when I was frustrated and I didn’t like how my art looked and I just kept working and trying my best.

My strength and weaknesses can definitely be shown through what materials and techniques I use because when you look at my work you can tell if I liked making it because of the material and you can tell when I didn’t like making it. My work shows that I’m a hands-on learner, I like being busy and getting to use different materials. You can also tell from my work that it comes out a lot better when I get to work at my own pace and when I don't my work looks a lot messier because I get stressed and rush myself. jgvjhf
