Maine Duck Stamp

Artist Statement

In The Grass

Ideas that are visually evident in my work is that I tried to get the colors of the King Eider exact or really close. I wanted to show the feathers which is why I went in and detailed everything with colored pencil once the paint dried. This project relates to my life because I really like animals and wildlife so it was fun to do an art piece on them.

My work was made with mostly watercolors and then I went over it in colored pencil to make it more realistic and have features like the feathers more defined.

I started off by sketching my ducks out and then moving onto their surroundings like the water and plants. Then I went over everything in watercolors and colored pencil. My project really evolved as I started to add the little details like the feathers on the King Eider duck and the plants. I think my next steps could have been to add more detail to the background like the water, sky, and plants.
