Realistic self portraits

I think some of the ideas that are evident in my work are that I didn’t just want to do a regular photo of myself like a mugshot I wanted my face to be at an angle so there was shadowing on my face. I also made it so my face was resting on my hand. Another thing that’s evident in my work is that I wanted my hair down so it could add a lot more texture to my work. My project relates to my life because it’s a realistic portrait of myself that I did in my foundations of art class. To make my self-portrait I used thick white paper and a range of dark and light graphite pencils, tortillions, a ruler to make my border and graph my paper so I could go square by square, and I used a printed photo of myself in black and white to refer to while drawing. One of the processes I used was starting at the top left corner and working my way across the paper, I did this to prevent smudging. A technique I used was to start of light with my pencil when shading and then if it wasn’t dark enough id add on because then if I made a mistake it would be easier to fix. My project evolved as I filled in more of my squares, especially my face squares and hair squares. My project also evolved as I blended the graphite. my next step could have been to add more details on my face like maybe adding my freckles.
