Advanced Art and Design
Semester #1 Reflection
What I learned and took away from this class the most is that it really pushed me to grow my usage of materials and types of art I explored. I really like how I pushed myself to use new materials during this semester I even experimented with collaging and oil paint sticks which was one of the materials far out of my comfort zone because of how messy they are. I think Iv'e been most successful with my experimenting with new materials and types of art. I think the thing I struggled the most with in this semester was keeping up with the work and getting assignments done on time. I think this happened a lot this year because in this first semester I've just felt super unmotivated and not that inspired by my work and that made it really hard for me to be creative. My artistic goals for the second semester is to continue to push my limits with trying and experimenting new materials. I also want to try doing larger work and a lot smaller work just to see how I like it. For the next semester I plan to not fall behind and really keep up with my work.
Semester #2 Reflection
I think this second semester my work has really improved and that shows through my revisions and how I constantly keep building off my past/ previous work. I also think my work has improved a lot this semester because I enjoyed creating it a lot more than last semester which made me try harder to improve my skills. I also branched out more this semester with color in my work which made it stand out more. I think my work shows my strength as a learner through building my technique and trying new things to create the same work or something close but I also think this ties into one of my biggest weaknesses, my biggest weakness is that once I find a concept or thing I like I tend to do it for a while and that's why I focused on faces this year and facial expressions.
I think this just shows that even if I like a certain concept or style and get comfortable with it I should still keep trying to branch out. I think the most challenging thing for me this semester was keeping up with my website and the online work I fell behind on a lot. I also think it was challenging for me to try new things or try different concepts/ styles once I had already found one I really liked and had focused on. I'm most proud of how my style of art has grown and how I've improved even just over the last semester.
I'm also proud of the fact that I branched out into using some new materials and experimenting with them this semester even when I was nervous about how they would come out. I'm definitely gonna keep doing art throughout the summer and hopefully keep growing my technique and skills. I hope next year to somehow keep art in my schedule even if it just means spending my study hall in the art room doing fun projects and just creating art on my own time.
