Artist Statement

The main idea that guided my project was the idea of a big puffer fish with shark fins. I wanted my work to be really fun and brightly colored which is why I chose bright paints to go with the blue glaze. My work was made with primarily clay which I then covered in blue glaze and when that dried I used sgraffito tools to carve into my project and make designs. When all that was finished and my clay was fired I put a clear glaze coat on and fired it again. My last touches on my work were the parts that I wanted to paint like the mouth and eyes. After everything was done I also had to fix pieces that had broken off during the process with superglue.
