Artist Statement

Circles

Ideas that are evident in my work is that I wanted my drawing to look like an embroidery hoop with floral patterns being stitched into the center of the fabric circle. Another idea that I wanted to make evident in my work is that I wanted to use very mellow colors which is why I made the background of my work a mustard yellow color. My project relates to my life because this is one of my first times working with circles and making them the center of my artwork for a project. The materials I used were watercolors, painters tape, pencils, markers, a black gel pen, and a ruler to make my border.

I tried to experiment with lots of different shades of green in my project for the flower stems and the other little plants that I put in my work. My project evolved as I put the black gel pen outlines over the colored marker and when I added the watercolor background to my work. I think my next steps could have been to add more detail with a black gel pen.
