Artist Statement

Animals Playground

The main idea that guided this piece of work is that I was asked to draw a playground for animals and when I heard that I immediately thought of a children's book. With this idea of a children's book in my mind, I made my work very simplistic and cartoon-like and I also added lots of bright colors to the background and animals. My work was made on watercolor paper and I used colored pencils and a thin black pen for everything but the background. For the background I ended up using markers, which I didn't really like because it ended up looking patchy. My process was pretty simple but I did look up playgrounds just for reference. Other than that I spent time outlining my work and deciding what colors I wanted to use to make it look most like a children's book.
