Stars and Stripes ReDesign

Stars and stripes

Some big ideas that are visually evident in my work is that I definitely wanted it to be centered around kindness because I really feel like America needs that right now during the pandemic and just in general. Another big idea that is pretty evident in my work is that it was a ReDesign of the American flag. I chose to center my work around kindness because I do feel like it really relates to my life because I do believe that a small act of kindness can go a long way and make someone's day.

My work was mostly made with sharpies because I wanted a bright red and blue color to represent the American flag. I also used a white paint marker to make the stars, it was hard to find something to make those brighter white stars. I also used a ruler, pencils, and an eraser for the pencil lines.

I experimented with the process of deciding which letters would be red and white striped and then which letters would be blue with white stars. I definitely wanted to make sure the white and red stripes were proportionate and didn’t look uneven. My project definitely started to evolve as I added the bright color and when I added the black background and that made my lines look a lot straighter and cleaner. I think my next steps could have been to maybe say show kindness instead of be kind, I just didn’t have enough room on my paper for that idea.
