Clay Sustained Investigation #3

Artist Statement

The Purple Nose

The main idea that guided my work was that I didn't want my nose to look simple or pretty I wanted it to look wonky and weird. Like my other pieces, I wanted this to look somewhat abstract and different. I wanted this work to really align with my other two and fit with the whole not perfect look. I really just wanted to keep my somewhat abstract theme going. My work was made primarily with clay and clay/ sgraffito tools. The other materials I used were acrylic paint, sharpies, super glue, silver wire, and wire tools. The process I used was I first made a tablet out of air dry clay and once that completely dried I used my sgraffito tool to start carving the nose shape I wanted. once the carvings were deep enough I covered the tablet in watered down acrylic paint. when all of the paint dried I started making my wire border and spiral shapes and super glued them on.
