The Purple Hands
The main idea that guided my artwork was that I wanted it to be colorful, light, and fun. I also wanted it to be a piece that you just look at and it makes you happy because it's so bright and cheery. But the biggest idea this work represents is the past year has been really hard on everyone and if we were all in it together and working together it would be a lot easier. I got this idea because my sculpture is of holding hands which just made me think of being in this together and strength. My work is really trying to say that in hard times we’ll come together.
My work was primarily made with alginate and plaster to mold and make the sculpture of my hands but I also used a lot of acrylic paint in my work to get the really bright purple color I wanted. I used glitter paint for small details and I used pipe cleaners to create my 3D flowers and I used superglue to secure those.
My process I went through between my idea and my finished process was pretty short because my idea never really changed and I already had a plan in my head on how I was going to make it work and look.
