2D Design

Semester 1 Reflection

I think some of the things that I’ve been most successful with in 2D design is experimenting with new materials and learning to not stress out when I mess up. I also think I was really successful with is that I really tried to experiment with other styles of art and step out of my comfort zone a little bit. I also really like that in 2D design you get a lot more freedom in projects and your choice of materials, I really think that helped me figure out the type of art that I enjoy doing. I think I was successful In these things because I definitely see progress and progression in my work throughout the year. It’s also interesting to see the difference in my work from last year in foundations of art and this year in 2D design.

Something I’ve struggled with this year in 2D design is realism especially when we did the duck stamp project. I struggle with this style of art because I think it’s very different from the style of art I like to do and it can be really stressful, and I don’t think art should be stressful. Another reason why I think I struggled with this the most is that realism is very different from the style of art that I like to do where it’s chaotic and looks somewhat animated. Realism was also hard for me because I like to use materials like oil pastels that I can smudge with my fingers and blend and I feel like I can’t do that when I’m creating a realistic piece of work. Even though I struggled with this style of art this year I would still like to learn more about it so maybe I can become better at it.

My artistic goals moving forward are to mainly keep experimenting with new materials and styles of art. I also want to work on getting more comfortable with realism and stepping out of my comfort zone more. I want to keep working on these goals moving forward because I really enjoy art and I think if I start learning more about new materials and styles of art it will open me up to new opportunities and learning experiences. I also want to keep these goals and take more art classes because art is basically one of the only hobbies that I’m really passionate about and I don’t want it to fade away or get cut out of my life. Overall I really enjoyed this class and what I learned during this semester and I look forward to taking more art classes.
