Nicholas Terry was the first person of this surname known to have lived in the East Malling area. He paid annual rent of 3 shillings 1 pence to the Abbey of West Malling, for a holding of 10 1/2 acres - From "A Rental of the Manor of East Malling 1410," KENT RECORDS vol 21, item 32 on page 41.
He may be an ancestor (great grandfather?) of the William Terrey who purchased lands in West Malling and East Peckham in 1507.
