Ann was the oldest of William Clinch and Ann Knight's daughters, christened at Stockbury on 13 December 13, 1729.
She was seven months pregnant when she married Stephen Hales, which was not uncommon in an area that still practised handfast marriages. The church ceremnony was at St James, in Bicknor, on 21 Dec, 1754. Two months later they christened their first son William, in honour of his maternal grandfather.
Similarly, they named their first girl "Ann."
The Hales family was in Stockbury by then.
Ann gave birth to four children, before she died at the age of 36. She was buried in at St Mary Magdalene church in Stockbury, on
Oct 1, 1765 Stockbury.
