Nicholas Pacli (born about 1350) is the first Pack known to have come from Barming. He could be a relative, possibly the grandson, of the Ralph Pak who the Lay Subsidy of 1334/5 lists in Maidstone Hundred (which includes Barming)
In 1377, Nicholas was one of the two local men who assisted Johannes Bakere collecting taxes within Barming parish. (Bakere oversaw the collections in Maidstone Hundred) The poll taxes of 1377-81, meant to pay for the French war, prompted the Peasant Rebellion of 1381.
He may have been a close relative, possibly even the brother, of the Radulphus Pak who assisted in Teston - Carolyn Fenwick, editor, THE POLL TAXES OF 177, 1379 AND 1381 pp 401, 402
One of these two men in probably an ancestor of the Ralph Packe from Barming whose will was probated in 1465.
