CHILDHOOD
I suspect our ancestor John Bannar descends from the family that arrived in Bicknor sometime prior to 1690. I suspect
MARRIAGE
John Bannar married Rebekah Tilden in Stockbury on October 22, 1723.
She was one of the four children that Richard and Mary Tilden christened four of their children in Stockbury between 1698 and 1724.
LANDS
They lived in house #10 in the lands beyond the church, or South Green, in the Overseers accounts (which date from 1731). John Banner's assessment was 13 shillings, 6 pence. While many of the surrounding farms are more valuable, John was both owner and occupant. He was the parish Overseer in 1737, 1742 and 1763 (and presumably many other years).
John Banner was also farming in the adjoining parish of Bredgar by 1731 and had three parcels there in 1741.
The Seven Years War brought prosperity to farmers and John was renting an additional three properties in Stockbury by 1764. The accounts mention him paying labourers wages of between £2 and £6. He also distributed a pair of gloves, a coat and waste coat, allotments of wood and gave a shift to Elizabeth Knight.
