1634 - Christopher

FAMILY

Christopher s/o Nicholas Browne and his wife Mary, christened in Detling on 25 March 1637.

Christopher Brown, and presumably his wife Ann, owned a house with two hearths in Yelsted, Stockbury, when the 1664 hearth tax was compiled.

CHILDREN

Two of his children are listed in the parish register:

  • Mary d/o Christopher and Ann was christened in Stockbury on 28 Jan 1676
  • Christopher s/o Christopher Brown was buried in Stockbury on Nov 11, 1687.
  • Christopher was presumably the father of Margaret Browne who, with Margery Sherwood, was accused of entering the house of Joan Gilbert in Stockbury and stealing three "petticoats" worth 30s. The case was brought before West ent Quarter Sessions,on Dec 10, 1696 and both women were found not guilty.
  • I suspect he is also the father of John Brown who started christening his children at St Mary Margaret Stockbury in 1697/98, and was presumably born around 1675.

Christopher's wife, Ann Brown, was buried on February 21 1702/3.

The parish registry entry describing Christopher's burial, on September 10, 1707, says he was "an ancient man of this parish."

There are no entries pertaining to the parentage of the John Brown who started christening his children at St Mary Margaret Stockbury in 1697/98, and was presumably born around 1675. He is most likely Christopher's son.
