LANDOWNER
John and William Reve are listed side by side in in the Hundred of Boughton when Kent's 1334/5 Lay assessment was compiled. Their assessments were:
HIS DAUGHTER'S MARRIAGE TO THOMAS DE TYLDEN
John is called "of Marden" when his daughter Isoldel married Thomas de Tylden. This was a good match for the Reve's, as Thomas' father Walter de Tyldenne was a wealthy landowner from Maidstone Hundred (assessed 13s).
In 1370, John Reeve gave his daughter Isolde de Tyldenne, of Marden, a grant of land (p 6 of attached)
WILLIAM REVE, THE REBEL IN 1381
I suspect John Reve is either the father or grandfather of the "William Reve of Marden" accused of taking part in the great peasant's rebellion of 1381. The informant, John Cote of Loose, claimed they set off for London on Sept 30 1381 and named several of their victims. However the jury did not find his testimony convincing and they were pardoned.
