FAMILY
Walter was one of the Straine's who appear in Bicknor during the closing years of the 16th century. There is nothing to suggest they are not members of a single family. John Straine "the elder" was Bicknor's churchwarden in 1599-1606. My cousin Kerry Petersen writes that Walter was the church warden in 1571-1597, 1613-1615, 1619-1620, 1626-1627.
He married Joyce Tilden in Boxley 15 Feb 1590. He appears to have been around 40 , which suggests this may have been Walter's second marriage. If so, Walter's first marriage could have taken place as early as 1575.
WILL
The most pertinent evidence is his will, which does not appear to mention children of a previous marriage. (Were there no children? No marriage? Or might there have been two Walter Straines who served as Bicknor's church warden?)
