The first of our Knight family to appear in the historical record is Eleanor Knight of Borden, who was assessed 1s 8d in Kent's Lay subsidy of 1334/5. She was presumably a widow, who owned a modest holding.
We have to wait more than a century before there is another "Knight" listing from Borden, the Robert who followed Jack Cade off to London in 1450. He was almost certainly related to her, and may be a direct descendant (great grandson?)
