Stephen may be the s/o Wiliam Hind and born around 1690
He probably married his wife Sarah sometime prior to 1714
The only record we have of this family prior to 1720 is christenings. Then William and Stephen Hind show up in the the parish churchwarden's accounts. Stephen was probably a tradesman, for the parish paid him a shilling for bricklaying in 1721. 1727 William’s property was evaluated at £30 and Stephen a meagre £3. That was 1727, the year before William's death.

NOTES ON HIS SON STEPHEN
Hind, Stephen, ba., and Frances Shirley, spr., both of Bredgar. At Maidstone. Oct. 22, 1741. - Canterbury Marriage Licenses, vol 6.
Stephen and his wife Francis owned a house and garden in the village, as well as some land in the neighbouring parish of Tunstall. (Helen Allinson, BREDGAR, pp 63-71)
PARISH CHURCHWARDEN
Stephen was the parish Churchwarden in 1747. As there was no boardroom in the church, the vestry met in the Sun Inn. (Where they also enjoyed refreshments!) Bredgar seems so much more cosmopolitan than rural Stockbury. The parish ledger lists Stephen Hind’s expenses for visitations to Sittingbourne and Faversham, as well as those of Mr Lawrence to Canterbury! There were also more mundane payments:
A pint of oil for the church bells ....................00.01.00
To Mrs Raisell for ringing the bell ............. 01.00.00
Wine for the sacraments ............................ 00.12.00
Bread for the sacraments ............................... 00.00.10
To old church warden ...................................... 01.19.10
To Richard Potter for a badger ..................... 00.01.00
& for 4 foxes .......................................................00.04.00
To Anderson for 3 badgers .......................... 00.03.00
For 4 books ........................................................ 00.04.00
And a list of the parish’s income:

Received from church houses ........................ 01.00.00
Received from church land ............................. 00.12.00
