Though Sarah is described in the register as being “of Tunstall” her surname is unknown in Kent. Her family probably came from Sussex. A vast clan of Allemors is found in the coastal parish of West Wittering, starting with the 1600 marriage of John Allmer and Ann Hollowaye. Many were fishermen, and Sarah’s family could have come to Borden by boat. She was pregnant at the time of her marriage, as her son Phillip was christened only three months later.
